200 - LIVE! (and then DEAD!)

You finally did it, you scumbums. You brought down one of Sydney's top 5 comedy-adjacent podcasts, right in the prime of its life. Hear our solemn death rattle, as recorded live at The Record Crate, Monday the 21st of March 2016, featuring special guests Simon Bosco, Ben KochanReece Piper, Nikko Malyon, Alexei Toliopoulos, Kate Coates, and Fran Middleton, as well as a live performance from *musical guest* Anatole. Also, we cast Bernie Sanders in the movie 'Skeletonhood'!

Please note - we are new at recording live podcasts, and this one has a couple of bits of peaky audio, particularly during Anatole's performance. For lack of a more elegant solution, we urge you to track down his immaculately produced (and mixed, and mastered, and written, and performed...) records. Both his debut Westbrook and recent follow-up Surrounds are yours to stream on Bandcamp, and available as very reasonably priced downloads as well. However, the only way to hear this insane, exclusive remix is right here on SSJ.

Thanks to Justin Andersen for the photo.
It's not a very good photo, but we appreciate the DIY spirit.

199 - Mr. & Mrs. Jiff

This week, it's our final not-final episode, so naturally we talk about Xavier's friend Tom, melting snowmen, and cleaning products. Plus we invent ice-pants, envision an erotic-thriller Will Smith biopic and an Apprentice/Mentalist mashup, and bid a final goodbye to recording the Something Something Joystick podcast whilst and sitting in office chairs and wearing headphones.

MUSIC USED:
SSJ Theme 3000: Xavier Rubetzki Noonan
first summer in a city: free cake for every creature
TSGWTA Theme: Xavier Rubetzki Noonan

We've been saving this week's feature track for a special occasion, and what occasion could be more special than our second-last episode? Not one example springs to mind. This week, we're proud to share the first single from free cake for every creature's latest album 'talking quietly of anything with you'. This lo-fi, cute-as-hell gem is called for you, and if you like it, you can grab vinyl, tapes and shirts through Double Double Whammy, or do what we did and get their full digital back-catalogue (as well as pre-order the new LP) on Bandcamp.

198 - Hand Jobs: Although... (feat. Chris Endrey!)

This week, we're joined by fantastic comedian and musician Chris Endrey, with whom we discuss several contemporary forms of performance, recount a recent trip to Melbourne (the City of Love), and invent a new game called That Sounds Delicious, What's That About?

When we booked Chris' appearance on the show we were delighted to find that it would coincide quite nicely with the long-awaited release of his band PAINTonPAINT's debut LP Night Rises. It's a terrific record, packed full of wonderful moments, and we're lucky enough to share one of them on our podcast, namely the anthemic Wine Dark Sea. If you like what you hear don't hesitate to grab the rest of the album on iTunes or Bandcamp!

Also, we play a couple of great rounds of That Sounds Good, What's That About? in which we neglect to develop the 'Australian Hamilton' idea that came up earlier in the show but instead work up a double bill that includes 'Fuck Your Way Out Of This One, Houdini'.

191 - Face Facts

This week, we're guestless, restless, and ultimately pointless, but we have a fast-paced discussion about the important things in life, such as For Dummies books, pipe-cleaners, and eating human teeth. If you like what you hear, Rosenstock's back-catalogue is absolutely worth your time - you can find it on his Bandcamp page or for pay-what-you-want donation from Quote Unquote Records. Plus, just announced, Jeff Rosenstock will be touring Australia yet again in March - for tickets head to www.jackknife.com.au/

This week, we're joined by the very funny and fabulous Sam Kissajukian and Rosie Rivette! That's right, it's our first episode recorded with a real-life couple. You can feel their romance bloom while we discuss Rocky II, complaint letters, and eating possum poo! The band's new single, Tender, is two minutes in heaven, and will be featured on their new EP 'Sugar Teeth', coming from Swoon Records on February 19th. Keep it locked to the band's website for news, links to their social media, tour dates, & all the ways you can check out their excellent back-catalogue!

189 - GOTYE #5 / Bombshell

This week, it's time once again for our very special Game Of The Year Edition, in which we pick apart the year that was 2015. It's very trendy to have lists of your top favourite things too, so we look back at some of our favourite movies, games, music, podcasts, and more. Plus, we drop a very big announcement! No joke, it's a really big one. It's not that part where we admit to being Men's Frights Activists, it's after that, and it's a real thing that is real and big. Thanks for listening!

MUSIC USED:
SSJ Theme 3000: Xavier Rubetzki Noonan
Magi Fuel: Cull
FEATURE TRACK:
We are lucky enough to be playing tracks from Sydney band Cull's brand-new LP 'Aloft', which is an absolutely gorgeous mix of psych, shoegaze and dream-pop. This week, we're joined by our very good friends Alexei Toliopoulos (Blank Slate Movie Podcast!) and Marcel Blanch-de Wilt (Marcel's Best Friends Club!) for our fourth annual Xmas Xtravaganza! We talk about our ideal gifts (then exchange Shitmas gifts instead), meet holiday characters Traditional Santa, Cool Santa and Geoffrey Claus-Toliopoulos. FEATURE TRACK:
This week, we're featuring another track by New York band Pupppy, who we previously featured on Episode 160. We loved their album Shit In The Apple Pie so much we named the episode after it, but it only occurred to me recently that the record was hiding a really fantastic, melancholic, anxious Christmas song - one which would fit in really well on our weird podcast. If you like it, you should grab the whole album for pay-what-you-want on Bandcamp!

Waterloo is the first single from the new EP by Max Quinn's Onomatopenis, Carpool Tunnel Syndrome.
